Portsmouth City Council
Danny W. Meeks, Councilman
Danny Meeks is a life-long Portsmouth resident, small-businessman and community leader. Born and raised in Portsmouth, Danny was a two-sport high school star, graduating from Cradock High School in 1992. After high school, Mr. Meeks decided that instead of attending college, he would pursue his passion for entrepreneurship.
In 1994, Danny started his own business, acquiring a few dump trucks and employing drivers. After a few tough years, some mistakes and a lot of difficult lessons, Danny started Meeks Disposal Corporation with his dad in 2001.
As Meeks Disposal Corporation’s President, Danny created hundreds of jobs in Hampton Roads and brought tens of millions of dollars to the local economy. Today, Danny Meeks owns Empire Metal Corporation, a multi-million dollar firm focused on recycling scrap metal.
Councilman Meeks also has a strong desire to give back to the community. Over the past decade, Danny Meeks and his business have donated vans to local churches in Portsmouth, provided Habitat for Humanity the funds to build a house, and sponsored numerous local charity events.
Councilman Meeks serves as Council Liaison to the School Board, the Portsmouth Redevelopment & Housing Authority, the Economic Development Authority, the Portsmouth Port & Industrial Commission, the Planning Commission; and as a member of the Finance Committee.
Aside from his business and giving back to the community, Danny’s other passion is spending time with his wife, Katie, and his daughters, Alyssa and Paige.
