Description:
The City of Portsmouth, Virginia is seeking a Librarian II, Branch Manager for one of four locations in our historic port city. Portsmouth Public Library recently opened a new 20,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility replacing a 5900 square foot, 35 year old location and needs a dynamic team member who can professionally contribute in moving our system forward. Duties involve oversight of daily operations and supervision including: collection development; facility maintenance; scheduling and staffing of full-time and part-time personnel; administrative, budgetary, personnel, circulation and programmatic operations. Also develops and implements programs, especially for children. Requires involvement in system-wide programs, policy updates, training and acquisitions.

Education/Experience:
Master’s Degree in Library Science; 3 to 5 years of progressively responsible experience as a managing Librarian; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.

Must be certified as a Librarian by the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Education Library Board.
