Description:
The City of Portsmouth is seeking a Background Investigator to research and conduct confidential background investigations on public safety candidates for the Police Department. The investigator will conduct and compile personal and professional background investigations to include credit, criminal and employment by interviewing subjects and references. The investigator will gather, compile and analyze background findings relevant to applicants as well as make recommendations and write summary reports regarding findings.

Education/Experience:
Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration, Public Administration or a related field. Previous experience performing the full range of duties of a Police Officer is highly desirable. Two years of experience performing the work of a background, criminal investigator or a supervisor over either operation in a public safety environment is required; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
