Description:
The City of Portsmouth seeks an Animal Control Warden to perform work in the enforcement of ordinances and statutes related to the control of animals. Work involves capturing and confining stray, diseased, and dangerous animals, including domestic and wild animals, fowl, and livestock. Employee is also responsible for protecting and assisting injured animals, as well as investigating cases of animal abuse and neglect. Employee is subject to the usual hazards of animal control work. This position requires on-call work, which may require employees to work weekends, holidays and shift work.

Education/Experience:
Graduation from High School or equivalent; 1 to 2 years experience in animal control work preferred; experience in dealing with the public; and the ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both written and oral formats; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Must possess a valid Driver's License issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. SELECTED CANDIDATE MUST PASS A PRE-EMPLOYMENT BACKGROUND CHECK, POLYGRAPH EXAMINATION, DRUG TEST, AND PHYSICAL.
