Highway Cleanup Safety Guidelines
Please review with all participants before cleanup!

Dress appropriately; loose clothing (long sleeves and long pants) are best.

Wear closed toe shoes.

Wear orange safety vests provided by the Department of General Services.

Wear rubber, latex, leather, or vinyl gloves.

Every 6 participants under 18 must be supervised by a person 18 years of age or older.

Participants must work facing oncoming traffic.

No litter is to be picked up in the street. Participants must stay clear of traffic at all times.

Do not pick up trash in tunnels or on bridges or overpasses.

Do not pick up trash in grass or weeds that are over 2 feet tall.

Do not pick up hazardous or any other chemical materials - call in items/location to 757-393-8663.

Be careful of poison ivy, poison oak, etc.

Be careful of insects, chiggers, snakes, etc.!

Be sure to take breaks whenever needed.

Bring your own water to stay hydrated.
