Out of an abundance of caution due to novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), all City of Portsmouth Planning Department offices are currently physically closed to the public. However, our staff is still working and is here to assist you virtually. The public is encouraged to use the city’s online options for services.
EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY, APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED IN PERSON. STAFF CANNOT RECEIVE OR ACCEPT ITEMS DROPPED OFF AT CITY HALL. APPLICANTS CAN SEND ITEMS BY EMAIL, US POSTAL SERVICE, FEDEX, OR UPS (as appropriate for the application type).

About the Board
The Board of Zoning Appeals is a mandated board by State Code. This board is to hear requests for variances from the provisions of the Zoning Ordinance, and provide the initial level of review of any decision of the Zoning Administrator. All requests for appeals must be made within 30 days of the decision. If this time period is not met no appeal may be made to this board. An application to the board must be submitted with the $350.00 application fee, six (6) weeks prior to the scheduled meeting.
