Portsmouth Public Library’s Annual “Food for Fines” Program

Food for Fines 1

Portsmouth Public Library, in partnership with the Food Pantry at Oasis Social Ministry, announces its annual “Food for Fines” drive starting Tuesday, November 1st through Monday, December 12th.  During this period, library customers are encouraged to bring undamaged, unexpired boxed or canned non-perishable food items to any Portsmouth Public Library location.

For each single donated food item, library customers will receive a $2 reduction in overdue fines.

Non-food items such as toothpaste, toilet paper, diapers, and soap will also be accepted.

You don’t have to owe a penny to help – we welcome support from all of our neighbors!  All food donations go directly to the Oasis Food Pantry which serves individuals right here in our community.  The food pantry and soup kitchen provided 187,117 meals last year and you can join in helping neighbors this season.

The Pantry Needs List:

  1. JELLY
  2. CANNED SOUPS
  3. INSTANT MASHED POTATOES
  4. TUNA FISH
  5. CHILI (WITH OR WITHOUT BEANS)
  6. OATMEAL, GRITS, CREAM OF WHEAT

Damaged or expired items and individual servings of ramen noodles will not be accepted during this drive.  The “Food for Fines” program is only applicable to library overdue fines.  No other fees are eligible.
